Founded by Ed Sayers, Straight 8 has spent over two decades challenging filmmakers to do something that feels increasingly rare: commit and risk. 

One roll of film. No playback. No fixes. No safety net.

The result is a showcase of bold ideas, creative problem-solving and the kind of filmmaking that relies less on technology and more on instinct and raw talent.

This Friday, 26th June, the latest selection of Straight 8 films will screen at 11am at Cinema Les Arcades in Cannes, continuing a tradition that has become something of a rite of passage for filmmakers around the world.

In an industry that often celebrates bigger, faster and more expensive, Straight 8 remains refreshingly simple - A camera. An idea. And the nerve to see it through.

We'll be keeping an eye on this year's films and raising a glass to Ed, whose wonderfully stubborn commitment to the craft has inspired filmmakers for decades!
