Why aren’t we shooting more in Jozi?

For decades, Cape Town has been South Africa’s production hub. But 25 years later, a recent shoot has Groundglass looking back towards the city where it all began, wondering whether the industry is overlooking one of the country’s biggest production opportunities.

Is Joburg becoming South Africa’s new service-production capital?

The crews are hungry. The locations feel fresh. The architecture has scale. And the space? We simply cannot emphasise the space enough!

Johannesburg isn't waiting to become a production city. It already is one.

With established infrastructure, experienced crews and an exciting wave of young Black creative talent, Joburg has the people and resources to deliver. And, we’ll say it, some seriously lekker people at that.

Cape Town’s compactness is part of its magic, but Joburg offers something different: sprawling locations, wide roads and room to manoeuvre, potentially saving productions both time and money. The infrastructure is there. The talent is there. The locations are there.

So perhaps the question isn't can we shoot in Joburg?

It's why aren't we shooting more there?
