Every David Needs a Gary

A look at Peter Lydon’s recent work for Lenovo, staring David Beckham.

David Beckham has many talents.

Apparently, accepting criticism from a chicken is one of them.

In Maximum David for Lenovo, director Peter Lydon pairs one of the world's most recognisable faces with one of advertising's more unexpected sidekicks: Gary.

The campaign is playful, funny and impressively self-aware, finding humour not in the technology itself, but in the very human challenge of trying to do everything at once.

It's also classic Peter. Whether he's directing high-profile television dramas or commercials for some of the world's biggest brands, there's a consistency to his work: sharp performances, cinematic storytelling and an instinct for finding the humour without ever forcing the joke.

Then again, when your supporting cast includes a chicken named Gary, you're already off to a strong start.
