"Welcome Home" - Apple 'HomePod' - directed by Spike Jonze

'Her' Director, Spike Jonze is no stranger to the world of dance and movement. He explored movement as early back as the Fatboy Slim videos he helped to choreograph in the late ’90s. Then to the Levi’s “Crazy Legs” commercial a few years later and all the way up to the famous 2016 Kenzo film he directed starring Margaret Qualley.

The Oscar winning director presents us with a new four-minute short film for Apple’s newly launched 'HomePod' speaker. The film features the English musician and dancer FKA twigs. The result is a stunning piece of film that is charming, surreal, emotional, playful, theatrical and utterly compelling. The film is titled “Welcome Home,” and is set to the backing track of a brand new Anderson .Paak track called “‘Til It’s Over.”

The film is a compelling story of movement and emotion - our hero comes home after a long day at work, sits trapped within her thoughts. Upon asking Siri to play "me something I'd like" her HomePod speaker responds with Anderson .Paak's new track, "Till it's over". What follows suite is an amazing display of visuals as FKA twigs breaks away from her thoughts with an emotive and joyous dance.

It sounds cheesy but it's a commercial one can't really convey in words. I can only urge you to watch it and get sucked into the piece yourselves.

The commercial is bang hot off the press, being released as recently as some 12 hours ago. So at this stage Jonze is quite mum on the 'ins and outs' of how the commercial was made. Whether CFX, practical affects or stage production alone was used (or even a mixture of all), the commercial succeeds in delivering a playful display of enchanting visuals you'd only associate with dreams or the imagination.
